Treasures of the Sorcerers: Shewstones Class-Bundle
Treasures of the Sorcerers: Shewstones Class-Bundle
A one-off self-contained class-bundle examining crystal balls, enchanted mirrors, scrying-stones, and other visionary tools in mythology, religion, history and sorcery; from their constructions and consecrations to their magical implementations and meanings. This class-bundle consists of a two-hour illustrated lecture recording, accompanying slide deck, and a bibliography of further study.
Whether gazing into the spirit-world, telling fortunes from a crystal ball, spying on earthly enemies, or calling spirits into precious jewels and water-glasses alike, the practices of the visionary magics of scrying employ a huge variety of objects and glimmering surfaces to facilitate these spiritual experiments, revelations, and actions.
This Treasures of the Sorcerers: Blades class-bundle is a self-contained module originally part of the larger five-part Treasures of the Sorcerers course series. In this class, we take stock of the wide range of implements and media of visionary divination and evocatory scrying – such as crystal balls, “black mirrors”, polished stones, and even bowls of water – to consider the magical operations of vision-at-a-distance, spontaneous wisdom, channeled magical texts and revelations, and the conjuring of spirits into reflective objects to impart knowledge and receive orders to work.
This study surveys a plethora of historical examples of famous and indeed infamous historical and legendary magicians and their magic mirrors, shew-stones, and other tools which facilitated their second sight. In exploring these tools and techniques of crystallomancy, stone-scrying, lapidary lore, and the divinations performed via glasses of water, we will investigate various visionary practices for attaining knowledge and traditional forms of “remote-viewing” as well as the evocatory conjuration of spirits into shining objects and receptacles; and consider how such implements were ensorcelled and gazed into, and how exactly they can be employed in our magics today.
